Hastings Fringe in Rye, at the Rye Creative Centre. The shows are as follows:
Friday 6th 7.30pm: Mike Hatchard performs his one man show The cocktail Pianist.
Mike Hatchard performs the story of Bernard Halfpen - the almost invisible pianist at the Luton Skyport Hotel. As he plays his anodyne melodies, he reveals a dark past, and how he might have been a great concert pianist had fate not had other plans.
The original score reflects how Bernard overcomes an illogical fear of numbers, untimely seductions, too much education, a dabble into alcoholism, and an entirely understandable inability to cope with the pressure of piano competitions. Always musically compelling, frequently amusing, but often deeply serious and tender.
Saturday 7th 7.30pm: Highly Inflammable funded by Arts Council England, written by local writer Cheryl White, a play set in two equally explosive eras – 1977 and post-Brexit Britain – Highly Inflammable tells the story of a teenage friendship ruined by intolerance, racism and idealism - all set to the music of Poly Styrene. Directed by Jonny Magnanti - a local experienced professional actor/director, Jonny has really done a stint at the National Theatre.
Sunday 8th October 7.30pm: Seven Seconds Sandy, a young teenage girl, is killed in a tragic road accident. Good girl or bad? Saint or sinner? Her family and friends know the whole story. Or do they?
Written by local writer/director and founder of professional Hastings based theatre company Theatre Nation (Paris Snow the musical), Patrick Kealey.
After studying English Literature at St Catherine’s College Cambridge Patrick worked as a freelance actor, director and writer for over thirty years.
Seven Seconds feature local professional actress Hayley-Marie Axe
Seven Seconds audience quote from professional actress/producer Emily Carding: "moving and thought provoking piece by Patrick Kealey with extraordinary direction and some stunning performances - 'Seven Seconds'. Congratulations to everyone involved"
